COVID Has Been Cruel, But Don’t Let it Rule!

COVID has been cruel. Social media has been cruel. Comparing ourselves to others is cruel and trying to keep up with others also proves to be cruel. Scrolling through the news is cruel to our daily perspective and thought life. In fact it will take every positive thought captive if we let it. All this negativity steals hope for our goals, dreams, and our true purpose. It also absorbs a lot of our time. Our precious time that we will never get back.

Last week I shared about how God used Gideon to rescue the Israelites from the Midianites. But before that, Israel called out to God for help. He heard their cry. Even though they were worshipping other earthly gods, the God in Heaven heard their cry.

So Israel was reduced to starvation by the Midianites. Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help. ~ Judges 6:6 (NLT)

The Midianites destroyed all their produce and left them with no substance. They were left to starve. In some ways this is what some of us experienced during the pandemic. COVID took the fruit of our labor. Perhaps we ended up running in wrong directions looking to be fulfilled yet feeling more empty.

What are we running after that is robbing us of what God is trying to bless us with?

What are we running from that God is trying to reach out to us through?

What are you running to find value in? Perhaps you’ve learned during this season of COVID what you once found value in, carries no value at all.

We were not created to simply find purpose in work. God has so much more to offer us than fulfillment in work and the constant need to be known. The cruelty of COVID has brought this to light. Being in the event industry I’ve had to think about it a lot. My work came to a complete halt.

I’ve learned that God wants to bless us with so much more than work or selfish ambitions. He wants to comfort us, and have a relationship with us that’s filled with hope and purpose. He may seem random but He has a rhythm for your life. Seek His purpose for You by simply seeking Him.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”  ~ John 3: 16

Prayer: God, help us to surrender to your plans for our lives. Help us to cry out to you for help you, rescue us from the cruelty of this world. Fulfill us, give us purpose and hope for a future.

in the clay,
