We are human beings. Not human doings.

Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31

I have to be honest and tell you that I didn’t spend a lot of time in solitude this week.  It was a unusally crazy week that God got me through but sadly I left Him out.  A wise friend once told me that the busier we are the more time we should spend with God so we can be a better person for Him on those crazy days and seek His wisdom and guidance when we are going to likely need it the most.  This makes total sense and if only I’d thought about that before today.

Well I’m here and despite my week I do have something that God gave me to share with you.  Verse 31 speaks LOUDLY to me after a week like I had when I neglected God.  Thankfully God did not neglect me.  He got me through it and I managed things well with His help.  I prayed a lot this week but it was more like going to the ‘prayer boutique’ than it was talking to God.  So back to the verses that I enjoyed…

29 Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? 30 Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!

31 So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all. (NIV)

or

31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. (ESV)

I love God’s words in verse 31.  After a long and exhausting week I feel like He makes it sound so easy and so peaceful, ‘let me show you a way of life that is best of all’ or ‘I will show you a more excellent way’.

Last Sunday I mentioned to you that I would be praying about my loyalty to God.  I wanted to share some new thoughts I had on that this week but I still don’t know exactly what God is trying to tell me.  While being stuck in thoughts about being loyal God is molding me with these new verses this evening.  I’m wondering if they tie together.  Perhaps He will show me a ‘more excellent way’ and He wants me to just ‘be‘.  Be ready, Be willing, Be loyal.  Perhaps He will reveal it to me and He just wants my heart to Be ready to Be loyalty.  After all we are called human beings no human doings.  Interesting eh?  It made me laugh when I thought about it but it’s so true! We do do do and perhaps God would rather us just Be. Be still, Be loyal, Be willing.

Please share with us all reading this blog what some of your Be‘s are.  I would love to read them as we are all in the clay together just being molded in different ways and into different shapes 🙂  Perhaps on Sunday when I blog about the sermon recap I will have more to share with you about being molded into loyalty.

In the clay,

Chantal Dube
